GILLESPIE COUNTY SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT #220
Gillespie County, Texas
Texas Section –Society for Range Management (TSSRM) Youth Range Workshop. For 57 years, a week-long Youth Range Workshop has been held each year at Texas Tech University Campus – Junction Texas. Forty 4-H and FFA boys and girls, ages 14 – 18, are accepted for each session.
Gillespie Co. SWCD traditionally sponsors one or two youths to attend each year. In 2010, we sponsored Cord Weinheimer. Gillespie County Wild Game Dinner sponsored Steffanie Eckhardt, and Gillespie County Farm Bureau sponsored Holly Crenwelge. All four students attended Fredericksburg High School; their teacher was Eddie Byrom. Applications for the workshop are accepted all year, the next session will be in June 2012. If you are interested, contact Hoyt Seidensticker at (210) 414.6603 or send email to hoyt@gvtc.com. Students receive advanced practical training in ecology, ranch and natural resource management. Land stewardship and leadership skills are taught with the goal that students return home to help educate others about what they’ve learned. The photos below are from the 2005 Workshop.
