Summer 2010

 

Thursdays        Fredericksburg Farmers Market from 4 pm to 7 pm at Marketplatz, under the Kinderhalle pavilion (corner of Main Street & Adams) through the end of September. Buy locally grown fruits and vegetables, farm cheese, fresh baked bread and pastries, herbs and more.  Visit their web page at www.fbgfarmersmarket.com.

June 11-12       Antique Machinery Show at Gillespie County Fairgrounds, sponsored by the Hill Country Antique Tractor & Engine Club, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. As written about in the Fredericksburg Standard, admission is $6 for adults and free for children under 12. In addition to old tractors and farm machinery, exhibits will include antique gasoline and steam engines. See demonstrations of wheat threshing, wood-planing, corn shelling and horse-drawn hay baling along with operation of an antique saw mill.

June 20-25       Youth Range Workshop at Texas Tech Junction campus, sponsored annually by Texas Section Society for Range Management. Approx. 40 Texas youths ages 14-18 will attend. Deadline to sign up is May 30.

Summer 2010  Annual Hay Show!  Deadline to enter is in late July. Judging is in August and bales will be on display at the Gillespie County Fair.  More details to be available at Texas Agrilife Extension office at 95 Frederick Road, Fredericksburg, or call 830-997-3452 for details.

Aug. 26-29      The 122nd annual Gillespie County Fair at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg. Visit http://www.gillespiefair.com for details or contact Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association at 830-997-2359.

Oct. 7, 2010    Fall Field Day at Doss Community Center, in the late afternoon.  Possible speakers, Ron Gill, Ph.D., Extension Livestock Specialist,  and Jason Skaggs with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers.  Program details to be announced soon, save the date! Field Days are sponsored by Gillespie County SWCD, Texas AgriLIFE Extension, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
