GILLESPIE COUNTY SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT #220 Gillespie County, Texas The 2011 Beef & Range Field Day was May 12 at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds ShowBarn in Fredericksburg, TX. The educational program about carrying capacity of rangeland, stocking rates for livestock, and herbicides for rangeland was presented by Dr. Bob Lyons and Dr. Rick Machen. Both are with Texas AgriLife Extension. A presentation was given about Calvin Weinheimer, the SWCD’s 2011 Pioneer in Agriculture. Willard Dearing had a Plant Identification exhibit and many others also provided exhibits during registration. Field Day participants earned 2 CEUs toward renewal of a private pesticide applicator’s license. Dr.Rick Machen and Dr. Bob Lyons Calvin Weinheimer, and his daughters and sons Nearly 40 people and businesses from Gillespie County donated door prizes which were given away during the meal. We appreciate all the support for field days! SWCD supporters and door prize donors are listed on our main display in the hall at our office. The display will be at the Gillespie County Fair, August, 2011.
