GILLESPIE COUNTY SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT #220
Gillespie County, Texas
Annual Fish Sales. Each year we hold a fish sale so area landowners can restock their ponds and tanks. The fish are raised at a Fish Farm in Dublin, TX. With all the rain during 2007, we had several fish sales. We held 2 small sales in 2008. But it was so dry in 2011 that we had only one small fish sale. Our Spring 2012 Fish Sale is tentatively set for late April at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds
pavilion. You should order and pay for
your fish at the Gillespie County SWCD office at 1906 North Llano, #106 in
Fredericksburg before the delivery date.
You’re welcome to call 830-997-3349 ext. 3 for more info and pricing. Or if you can be patient, the details for our
2012 fish sale will be posted here as soon as they are available. Grass Carp can help control some kinds of pond vegetation. They like to eat bushy pondweed, hydrilla, and American pondweed. Texas Parks and Wildlife’s website has a page about Triploid grass carp, available as a pdf file. Their website can help you find out if Grass Carp can help your pond. Though Grass Carp cannot reproduce, you need a permit from Parks and Wildlife before you can buy them. Click the link above and use their web page to download the permit application. Allow 4 to 5 weeks for the permit process. Parks and Wildlife has done away with the Supplemental Grass Carp applications. If you need more Grass Carp than you were initially approved for, you’ll need to complete and pay for a new Grass Carp application. If you get approved for several Grass Carp, you don’t have to buy them all in the first year. The permit is good until you purchase all that were approved.
