2007/2008 Conservation Poster & Essay Contest Winners

The District sponsors annual Poster & Essay Contests for boys and girls of Gillespie County.  The entry deadline was in December 2007 for this competition.  We’d like to thank all the students for submitting their entries!  It’s lots of work for everyone involved, and we appreciate all your efforts.  Entries were judged on January 9, 2008.

The POSTER Contest is for students 12 years of age and younger.  The two themes were:

(2008) “Water is Life and
(2007) “Today is the Day to be a Part of Conservation’s Power.”
 

The poster winners are:

1st place:  Scott Burlison, Doss School

2nd place:  Jacob Krebs, Harper School

3rd place:  Keagan Sieckmann, Doss School

The ESSAY Contest theme
was
“What Soil and Water Conservation Means to Me
”.
There were 2 age groups:
Ages 13 and under; maximum of 300 words; and

Ages 14 to 18; maximum of 500 words

Essay winners age 13 and younger are: 

book-composition1st place:  Bailey Baethge, Harper School

2nd place:  Marlo Jimenez, Harper School

3rd place:  Peyton Kneese, St. Mary’s School

No winners were named for the upper age group.

 

Plaques for each winner were donated by the Lower Colorado River Authority.  Security State Bank and Trust donated Savings Bonds for all the winners.  They received their plaques and savings bonds certificates at a hamburger dinner sponsored by the Fredericksburg Lions Club in March of 2008.
